      Distinctiveness of the institution – Women Empowerment

G.H.G. Harparkash college of Education for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, Ludhiana has been working to spread Women Education in the rural area of Punjab state since 1955. Our distinctiveness lies in Empowerment of Rural Women which is perfectly in line with our vision i.e. Empowering Rural Women by Educating them. Following practices are followed to realize Our Vision and to maintain our Distinctiveness.

• The college is a premier Teacher Education Institute serving in the field of women education by providing quality education to the girls of rural areas of Punjab. Our founder lady Bibi Harparkash Kaur Ji was Padma Shri Awardee, an inspiration for all the girls coming to this prestigious institution.
• Ours is the only rural  college in Punjab which is Panjab University approved Research Centre and is running Ph.D. Course work in the subject of Education providing opportunity to rural girls for Research.
• To empower girl students, their learning needs are well identified at the start of the programme and college endeavors throughout their stay to cater to their needs by organizing Capacity Building programmes, Skill Development Programs, Value added courses, self study courses and workshops. These programmes help them to develop their overall personality as an empowered women,
• Extra emphasis is given on communication and teaching skills to make them competent professionals. Students become skillful to use Information and Communication Technology in their teaching and daily life.
• The college provides 'Book Bank' facility to needy girls. Students get books from Book Bank for the whole session.
• Girls get the awesome opportunity to participate in Youth festival, Skill in Teaching and Teaching aid preparation competition, College level Dramatics, Literary and Fine Arts and Sports Talent hunt competitions where they explore themselves to realize their own capacities and potentialities.
• Different programmes are organized for girls to sensitize them towards Gender equality, Environmental awareness, Braindrain etc.
• Student Council is active and always support the teachers to organize any event in the college, which help them to develop as confident organizers and  leaders.
• Students are given exposure to different places of educational and cultural importance to make them more knowledgeable and active.
• The facilities like Hostel and Transport ensures the reach of maximum girls to  education to make them successful women in life.
• The security and safety of girls here is exemplary which motivates the parents of the girls to send them for education and subsequently their  empowerment.

The alumni of the college are working on high profile designations like Professors in Universities and Colleges, District Education Officers, Principals in Colleges and Schools, Managing their own Academies, Teachers in Govt. and most reputed Private Schools. Some are State and National awardee teachers also. Women empowerment has become the legacy of the institution.
